The following are some books which may be helpful to you in your quest to learn more about learning and the brain. You can also access research studies on the Brain Gym web site under the research category.

Gail E. Dennison, Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D., and Jerry Teplitz, J.D., Ph.D., Brain Gym for Business: Instant Brain Boosters for On-The-Job Success, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1994 rev. 2000. Blue book providing brief instructions how to perform each Brain Gym activity. While addressed to the business population, this book features issues common to all persons (e.g., focusing attention, maintaining comfort with people). Plenty of blank space on each page leaves room for notes and makes it easy to perform each activity at a glance.

Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D. and Gail E. Dennison, Brain Gym: Simple Activities for Whole Brain Learning, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1986. Small orange book showing each Brain Gym activity being performed by a child and brief instructions how to perform the activities. Easy to use.

Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D. and Gail E. Dennison, Brain Gym: Teacher's Edition Revised, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1988, 1989, rev. 1994. Detailed introduction, overview, explanation, and small illustration of each Brain Gym activity. Each activity is covered extensively, usually in one page. There are teaching tips, variations of the activity, what it activates the brain for, what academic skills are improved, what behavioral and postural improvements can be made, what are related movements, and history of the particular movement. There is a small picture of each movement.

Edu-K for Kids, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1987. A cartoon-illustrated book which tells the story of a child with learning difficulties and how Brain Gym helped. During the process of story-telling, the cartoon character teaches many Brain Gym activities.

Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D. and Gail E. Dennison, Personalized Whole Brain Integration, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1985. An early manual for an Educational Kinesiology (Brain Gym) workshop. Contains information on whole brain integration intended as a supplement to the hands-on experience of the workshop. Shows many Brain Gym activities, explains muscle testing, brain dominance patterns.

Paul E. Dennison, Ph.D., Switching On: The whole brain answer to Dyslexia, Ventura, CA: Edu-Kinesthetics, Inc., 1981. A very early and fairly technical exploration of brain and body dominance patterns, how and why children switch off, and how cross-lateral movements can switch them back on again.

Carla Hannaford, The Dominance Factor: How Knowing Your Dominant Eye, Ear, Brain, Hand & Foot Can Improve Your Learning. Salt Lake City, UT: Great River Books, 1997. Defines brain dominance profiles, how they affect relationships and education, and provides learning aids and strategies.

Carla Hannaford, Ph.D. Smart Moves: Why Learning is Not All in Your Head, Salt Lake City, UT: Great River Books, 1995, rev. ed. 2005. Scientific accounts of how the brain works in learning, what goes wrong, and models for correction. Shows several activities from Brain Gym which help children learn.

Isabel Cohen and Marcelle Goldsmith, Hands On: How to Use Brain Gym in the Classroom, A Practical Photo Manual for Educators, Parents, and Learners. Sea Point, South Africa: "Hands-On" Books, 2000, 2002, 2003. Photos of children performing many Brain Gym movements, with descriptions of each. All books are available through www.braingym.com

The "logic brain" wants to read and learn everything there is to learn by reading a book. Reading is great! But there is no substitute for taking a Brain Gym class or receiving a Brain Gym Balance.

Check Prince Georges and Anne Arundel Community Colleges in Maryland and Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey for two- through fourteen-hour classes. Or talk to Anne Marie about sponsoring an-in service teacher training, workplace wellness day, or Brain Gym 101 class. (Her scheduled classes will not necessarily Classes can be arranged at your school through Anne Marie or you may consult the Brain Gym web site (see below) for additional classes and instructors. Anne Marie is available to teach in central New Jersey (areas within 50 miles of Clinton in Hunterdon County) and central Maryland and D.C. (Prince Georges or Anne Arundel Counties and D.C.)
